Crocker Resolution
Note: The resolution below was discussed at the April 14 meeting of the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners but was removed from the meeting agenda by a 4–3 vote. Voting to keep the resolution on the agenda—essentially supporting the resolution—were County Commission Chair Steve Yoder and Commissioners Will Bunek and Alan Campbell.
Leelanau County Resolution 2026-???
In recognition of the 30th anniversary of Leelanau County Clerk Michelle Crocker taking office. She is the longest-serving county clerk currently in office in the state of Michigan and the fourth-longest-serving elected county government official in Leelanau history.
Whereas, the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners, as well as the citizens of Leelanau County, wish to honor County Clerk Michelle Crocker upon the 30th anniversary of her taking office on May 1, 1996;
Whereas Clerk Crocker was first appointed by Circuit Court Judges Thomas Power and Philip Rodgers and has won eight straight elections since that appointment;
Whereas Clerk Crocker has been a dedicated public servant, meeting with enthusiasm the challenges of changing expectations and responsibilities over three decades as clerk and over 45 years of employment with the county;
Whereas during most of those years, the Clerk’s Office has accepted the non-statutory responsibility of handling the financial affairs of Leelanau County, resulting in positive audits and clean financial records;
Whereas Clerk Crocker has taken seriously her role as chief election officer for the county, guiding township clerks, training election workers, and creating an efficient process for early in-person voting at the County Government Center;
Whereas Clerk Crocker says that her favorite part of her job is helping the people of Leelanau County who interact with county government;
And whereas Clerk Crocker has been a loving wife to her husband, Allan Crocker, a loving mother to her sons Joshua, Jonathan, and Alex, and a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren;
The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners seeks to honor Clerk Crocker not only for her decades of service while working closely with us and past commissioners, but also for her dedication to making Leelanau County a better place to live, work, and play.
